TV Series & Korean Dramas Recap Part IV

.

I can't believe it's been more than a year since my last recap 🫠. As we've been slowly returning to our usual life routine these days, I didn't have much time to watch as many TV series/Korean dramas this year. It was also quite hard to spare time to write this recap because I was busy catching up on my book reviews 🀣. Now that I'm all caught up with my book reviews, I decided to work on this post as a change of pace—it's been a while since I last wrote a non-review post on this blog. In today's post, I will share my thoughts and opinion on 12 TV shows I've watched from March 2022 until March 2023. Hopefully, it won't end up being too long to read πŸ˜†.

Title: Business Proposal (μ‚¬λ‚΄λ§žμ„ )
Genre: Romantic Comedy
No. of episodes: 16
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The first one on this list is a delightful Korean drama that will surely make you smile and laugh a lot. My husband and I were so entertained watching this show! We're always looking forward to the next episode because it's so much fun to watch. Both the main characters and second-lead characters have great chemistry together. I personally think Kim Se-Jeong (κΉ€μ„Έμ •) did an amazing job delivering the comedic scenes—since she's constantly in a pinch due to her double identity. I also adored Ahn Hyo-Seop (μ•ˆνš¨μ„) who successfully portrayed his charming character well. Although the storyline is simple and predictable, we have a good time watching it πŸ₯°.
Title: Soundtrack #1 (μ‚¬μš΄λ“œνŠΈλž™ #1)
Genre: Romance, Music
No. of episodes: 4
Year of Release: 2019-2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since we saw Han So-hee (ν•œμ†Œν¬) in the drama My Name (which I included in my recap last year), my husband and I have become huge fans of hers. That's why when we discovered this mini-series on Disney+, we both decided to try watching it. It turns out to be a chill and relaxing drama about two best friends—one of them secretly harboring feelings towards the other for years. The premise of the story is so cliche but we find the characters really adorable and hoped they would soon get together. I wish there were more than just 4 episodes because I need more of their cute interactions! πŸ˜†
Title: Love All Play (λ„ˆμ—κ²Œ κ°€λŠ” 속도 493km)
Genre: Drama, Romance, Sports
No. of episodes: 16
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐

I'm usually not a huge fan of sports drama but I enjoyed this one so much! Firstly, the chemistry between the two main characters is so lovable. I love how their relationship naturally grows from friends to lovers through the many hardships that they went through together. The drama aspect of the story involves them being star-crossed lovers, which made my heart ache for them. I think the actors did an incredible job portraying the characters and emotions. Aside from that, the badminton tournament was thrilling to watch and made me root for the team.  Most importantly, Park Tae-Joon (λ°•νƒœμ€€) is the kind of boyfriend that we all wish we have 😍.
Title: Severance Season 1
Genre: Thriller
No. of episodes: 9
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

This TV show has a fascinating premise because it's about a medical procedure called 'severance' that allows people to separate their lives at work and outside of it. The concept was difficult to grasp at first but it didn't take long for me to be hooked by the story. As the characters started questioning some things about the company they work for, it produced an element of mystery that kept me intrigued. The first season of this show ended on a huge cliffhanger and there are still so many questions left unanswered. Unfortunately, we have no idea when the next season will be released due to some issues with the production. I'll be here patiently waiting for the second season to satisfy my curiosity 😌.
Title: Link: Eat, Love, Kill (링크: λ¨Ήκ³  μ‚¬λž‘ν•˜λΌ, 죽이게)
Genre: Fantasy, Melodrama, Romance
No. of episodes: 16
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The title of this drama piqued my interest; because who would put eat, love, and kill together in a title? The first few episodes were very promising because the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, I feel like it's slowly going downhill towards the end and doesn't give a satisfying ending. I appreciate Yeo Jin-Goo's (여진ꡬ) acting because he delivers the character's emotion and anguish so well. This is also my first time seeing Moon Ga-Young (λ¬Έκ°€μ˜) on screen, I think she's so adorable! The chemistry between them was great but the storyline was pretty disappointing.
Title: Money Heist: Korea—Joint Economic Area (μ’…μ΄μ˜ 집: κ³΅λ™κ²½μ œκ΅¬μ—)
Genre: Heist, Crime
No. of episodes: 6
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

My husband and I decided to try watching the first part of this remake of the hit series Money Heist that I included in last year's recap. The Korean version had a different twist to the original story because it depicts a world where North and South Korea is united. Overall, it was entertaining to watch, but I can't help comparing every little detail with the original series—which I think did a better job of creating depth for each character. Maybe people who never watched the original Money Heist before will be able to enjoy this version better than I did 🀷.
Title: Cafe Minamdang (미남당)
Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Romance
No. of episodes: 18
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The next one on this list is a drama starring one of my favorite actors (and singer), Seo In-Guk (μ„œμΈκ΅)! His previous drama, Doom At Your Service, was super disappointing and I hated every single moment of it 🀣. Thankfully, his acting skill truly shines in this drama! He was able to portray the darker emotion his character is feeling, while also becoming a goofy person that serves as a comedic relief. I'm not a huge fan of the romance in this drama but I love the dynamic between all the characters. The story was well-written, the mystery kept me intrigued until the end, and the hilarious scenes made me laugh out loud. Overall, it was a fun time watching this series. I'm definitely looking forward to Seo In-Guk's next project!
Title: Big Mouth (λΉ…λ§ˆμš°μŠ€ )
Genre: Noir, Legal, Crime
No. of episodes: 16
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Here's another drama starring one of my favorite actors, Lee Jong-Suk (이쒅석). This is his most recent project after he was discharged from military service, so I was highly anticipating it. When I first saw the trailer, I had high hopes that it would be thrilling and intense. It was exciting for the first few episodes but this is also a drama that I feel is slowly going downhill towards the end. The ending of this drama felt rushed as if they had no more time to elaborate things further. Even though I was disappointed by the final episode, it was still an entertaining drama to watch and I always look forward to the next episode.
Title: Little Women (μž‘μ€ 아씨듀)
Genre: Family, Mystery
No. of episodes: 12
Year of Release: 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I didn't expect this drama to be good because I wasn't very familiar with the actresses who played as the main character. The story is about three sisters who got involved in a case that leads them to fight against a rich family. My favorite character from this series is the middle sister, played by Nam Ji-Hyun (λ‚¨μ§€ν˜„); and the best part about this series is the unforeseen plot twists throughout the story. I truly could not predict where the story is going to go next and that made the show very exciting to watch. I would highly recommend this drama but don't expect any kind of romance or adorable scenes because the tone of this drama is pretty dark and intense πŸ˜†.
Title: The Last of Us
Genre: Post-apocalyptic, Drama, Thriller
No. of episodes: 9
Year of Release: 2023
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

As a huge fan of the game The Last of Us, I highly anticipated the release of this TV adaptation. They did an incredible job casting Pedro Pascal as Joel because he nailed the look and character successfully.  Although I enjoyed all the episodes, I was a bit disappointed because they focused more on the drama aspect of the story rather than the action. Even though I was hoping for more action scenes as they encounter the infected, I enjoyed watching the character development of both Joel and Ellie as they went on the journey together. Certain scenes made me laugh, smile, and also shed a tear at times.Definitely looking forward to the second season; hopefully, it will be as good or even better than the first.

Title: Physical 100 (피지컬: 100)
Genre: Reality Show, Survival
No. of episodes: 9
Year of Release: 2023
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Physical 100 is the only reality show on this list and I think it's worth mentioning because my husband and I are addicted to it! The show gathered 100 contestants from various backgrounds who have different physical strengths. They all compete with one another, individually and as a team, through several challenges that test their strength to the limit. This show successfully showed the tension of the competition and it was difficult to stop watching. One of the best part about this show is how the contestants are respectful towards one another and they all have great sportsmanship. I am amazed by the ladies who joined this competition because they proved themselves able to become a decent opponents to the big-bodied men πŸ‘πŸ‘.
Title: Shadow and Bone: Season 2
Genre: Fantasy, Drama, Mystery
No. of episodes: 8
Year of Release: 2023
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Quite a lot of time has passed since I read the Shadow and Bone trilogy and watched the first season of the TV adaptation. Honestly, I forgot a lot of the detail and have no idea at what point season 2 begins 🀣. Thankfully, there's a recap available online to remind me on what happened during the first season. The first few episodes of this season were just okay, I only stayed for The Crows because they're my favorite part of the show. The last two episodes were a lot better because they involved a lot of battle scenes and I love seeing the Grisha magic in action. I'm so looking forward to the next season because I think we will be focusing on the stories from the Six of Crows duology! Hopefully it won't disappoint! 🀞

We have finally reached the end of this post! This recap post is always fun to write because it allowed me to reminisce all the TV series and Korean dramas that I've watched. I am currently watching Silo on Apple TV+ and also Taxi Driver Season 2 (λͺ¨λ²”νƒμ‹œ2 )—both are fun to watch so far and I will probably include them in the next recap. I have also tried watching other shows that I DNFed after a few episodes because I lost interest in it. As usual, if you have any TV series or Korean dramas that you'd like to recommend, feel free to write them in the comments so I can check them out πŸ˜‰. See you in the next one πŸ‘‹
