🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022, EVERYONE! 🎉
As I enter this new year, I suddenly realized that I've been book blogging for 10 years since 2011—when I was still a college student. And coincidentally, this is also the 1,000th post on this blog! Can't believe that I've written that much during the past 10 years 😆. Looking back, so many things in my life have changed—from a college student, to office worker, then got into a relationship, and got married. Sometimes I underestimated how much can change in the span of 10 years, we only realized the truth when we look back and see how far we've come 😊.
This blog has certainly went through a lot of ups and downs. In the earlier days, I was able to publish more than 10 posts each month; but recently, I only managed to finish 5 posts or less (I'm proud of myself even for just completing a single post 🤣). Despite everything, I'm still proud of myself for being able to publish 40 posts in 2021—most of them are book reviews and only 7 non-review posts. I consider it an achievement for being able to review all the books that I've read last year, because back in 2020 my blog was almost completely neglected 😅. Below is My Year in Books recapped by Goodreads:
At the start of 2021, I set a goal to read 30 books in a year—10 more books than 2020. But I ended up surprising myself by being able to read 35 books last year (even though 4 of them are manga/comic book, which are relatively quick to read). I also feel really accomplished because I finished reading 3 series in 2021: The Trials of Apollo, Grisha trilogy, Six of Crows duology, and King of Scars duology. I still have a lot of series that I need to read but I'm glad I tackled them one by one each year.
Aside from that, I also read 7 non-fiction books that are really impactful and thought-provoking for me personally. I learned a lot from these books and some of them are books that I would want to re-read in the future. Among the 35 books that I read, 7 of them are Indonesian books and the rest are in English. I think this year I might try to read more Indonesian books—especially because I already have the Gramedia Digital app so I can read them in e-book format. I still refrain from buying physical books too much because I don't really have space to store them in my small apartment 🥲.
In 2022, I don't want to be too ambitious and set unattainable goals 🤣 thus, I set the same goal as the previous year, which is 30 books. If I surpassed that number early, then I might increase my goal along the way. On top of that, I want to try doing a reading challenge; this one is inspired by Buibu Baca Buku Book Club, and I create my own book bingo from their list of challenges, which consists of:
• A book from your last year TBR (moderate)• A series that has at least 3 books (advanced)• Freshly published book (chill)• A book written by an Asian author (moderate)• A best-seller book (chill)• A book that has been adapted to screen (moderate)• A book with a colorful cover (chill)• A book set in the future (advanced)• A book with more than 600 pages (advanced)
I haven't decided what the books that will fulfill each of these reading prompts, but I think it will be fun to complete this book bingo! If you'd like to join this Reading Challenge, you can get the templates here. I chose 3 prompts from the chill category, 3 from moderate, and 3 from advanced. Hopefully this challenge will motivate me and at the end of the year I will check to see whether I've completed the bingo or not 😆
Those are my goals for this year's reading and I hope to read a lot of great books in 2022! 🥳 Even though I don't know how long I'll be able to maintain this book blog, I'm thankful for everyone who have visited and read my posts in the past 10 years 😊. I wish everyone a year fully loaded with happiness and may you all get to read a lot of amazing books as well in 2022! See you in the next post 😉
