.

Here we are again in another Top 5 Wednesday post ! This week's topic is to choose Top 5 Books that You Weren't Expecting to Like but Did - which I think is pretty difficult for me to choose; because I mostly read books that I expected to like. So I have a lot of the opposite (books that I expected to like, but didn't), but not so much for this one. However, I will try my best to list 5 books that are suitable for this list :)) So here are the books of my choice.

5. Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Number 5 on this list is the Sherlock Holmes series. Because I almost never read any mystery books before - but when Gramedia published these new covers I was really interested to try reading them. It turns out, my reading experience was really satisfying; I love Sherlock Holmes' character and the way the story progressed. Although I still haven't read them all (I've read 5 books so far), I will finish them all sooner or later ;))

4. Ther Melian series by Shienny M.S.
I have mentioned this series in my older post as the book that I never expected to like but actually did! I rarely (almost never) read fantasy books by Indonesian authors, so I was quite hesitant to pick this book up. I was intrigued because the author was one of my lecturers in the university. And oh my, I love this series so much! The plot is action-packed, I adore the characters, and it kind of feels like a video game story - which I totally love. And of course, how can I not love the beautiful illustrations ♥

3. The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry
On the middle spot, I chose The Giver Quartet which I started because I was getting ready for the movie adaptation. I seriously have no idea what the book is going to be about, and I don't have high expectation because the book is like super small and thin! And there's this really old man on the cover, so I don't know what to expect. But now, The Giver Quartet has become one of my favorite series as well. The series as a whole is just perfection.

2. Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin
For the top 2 on this list, I actually can't say much because I haven't finish the whole series, but I absolutely love A Game of Thrones. Again, I was reluctant to start this series because: 1. they're crazy thick books 2. my brother showed me some parts of the TV shows which are so gruesome and dark. However, I was intrigued because my brother kept saying how good the story plot is - so I scheduled to read it for the holiday, not expecting much. And if you've read my review on A Game of Thrones, you'd know how much I loveeee the book. I seriously need to prepare myself to continue on with this amazing series.

1. Hannibal Lecter series by Thomas Harris
As for the #1 books that I didn't expect to like, goes to the Hannibal Lecter series. This series is actually very popular, and I know that years ago they were adapted into a movie - which made Anthony Hopkins super popular due to his amazing portrayal of Hannibal Lecter. In my mind, this book is just going to be horrid and terrifying because I know Hannibal loves mutilation. But as I read the story, I don't know why I actually quite enjoyed it (I even love Hannibal's character, which is really weird). I've read up to the second book so far, and need to finish this series soon :))

It turns out all of the books I chose for this list are series; but these are books that I seriously never expected to like. And I'm really glad I pushed myself to try reading these amazing books :))) Next week's topic is to choose my Top 5 Favorite Titles; which I think will also be quite difficult to choose because I have so many! If you'd like, you can also share books that you didn't expected to like but did in the comments below. Bye! ;)
