Top 5 Wednesday: Top Cover Buys

.

It's time for another Top 5 Wednesday ! This week's topic is actually one of my old habits which I try so hard to resist now - for the sake of my money. The topic is to choose your Top 5 Cover Buys, books you bought solely for the cover. Years ago, this happened to me so many times - but then several times I got disappointed because the content was not as good as the cover. Because of those experiences, these days I'm more careful about choosing what books to buy. I always search and read reviews first even though I totally fell in love with the cover. However, there are indeed some cover buys that I absolutely love - and made me discover new authors whom I've never known before. So I'm going to choose five of those books :) Here's the list - in no particular order.
So I actually bought this book in Norway, because I ran out of books to read during my holiday trip. As I was browsing the bookstore, there are not many books available in English. And to be honest, I judge all the books by the cover because I don't have much time to choose. At the end, my choice goes to this book. I never read a book by Ruta Sepetys, never heard of her, and I absolutely have no idea what it's about. But it turns out I loved it so much to the point of reading it non-stop while I was in a cruise ship - when everyone was seasick, I was lying in bed with this book like I care nothing about the world. It was an amazing book; and probably one of the first historical fiction books I've read :)) I never once regretted this cover buy.
For this one, I think the title of the book intrigued me a lot more than the cover - at first. But then again, the cover also looks really cool with the contrasting red color. I also never read a book by Jonathan Safran Foer either - I can't even pronounce his name properly, and I don't know a thing about what the book's going to be. And yes, this is another cover buy that I will never regret as well. If you've read my review for this book, you'll know how much I love it - and I even love the movie adaptation as well, which I also reviewed in 2012.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Who wouldn't be intrigued by this cover? It shows a picture of a man on a boat with a tiger, and I guess that's what made me buy it. This is yet another author that I've never read before, and I was quite a newbie on Goodreads back in 2010 - so I didn't know whether there's a hype about this book or not. But nevertheless, I absolutely love this book - probably one of my favorite books of all time - because it gave me a lot of things to think about, and taught me many things at the same time. Love the movie adaptation as well, which I reviewed here.
Benabook by Benazio Riski
I think I rarely buy Indonesian books solely by the covers - because I've had plenty disappointing experiences years ago, that's why I'm a lot more selective when buying them. But this one is an exception. I bought this book because the cover looks so cute, and it looks interesting as well because of the pixelated glasses. Thankfully, I wasn't disappointed by this cover buy because the content was super entertaining and funny! If you read my review for this book, you'll know how much I love the layout design as well. It's a super creative book and I had tons of fun reading it.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
The last one on this list is this precious book (another one of my favorite books) that I bought because of the cover - and also the title, I guess. I bought it without even reading the blurb, and at first I thought it's going to be about the mystery of a dog's death. But it's much more than that. And I can never say enough how much I love this book; I even wrote a super long review for it. I've never read a book by Mark Haddon before and never even heard of his name. Yet I never regretted the moment when I picked up this book solely because of the cover ♥

What about your experience in buying books solely based on the covers? Are mostly disappointing or it turns out to be an excellent decision?
Next week's topic is to choose Top Books You Wished You Read Earlier.
I still haven't thought of anything yet, but hopefully I will soon :))
Bye!
