Throwback: Favorite Teenlits

.
image source: here. edited by me.
Last month, I did a Throwback post on my favorite mangas, and I had so much fun making it. So this month I also decided to make another Throwback post with a different theme; which is my Favorite Teenlits! I read a LOT of teenlits back when I was in junior high through high school; but not so much these days - except for authors that I really love. And I absolutely remembered how much fun I had reading those teenlits - with all the cheesy plot-lines, stereotypical characters, the high school romance, and all the heartwarming friendships. The books I listed in this post are published and read around 4-10 years ago. So please pardon me, if you read some of these books recently and it's not that good; because it was good to me when I read them back in those years ;D (anyway, I listed the books in no particular order)

The first that I'm going to talk about are books by Sitta Karina! I fell in love with her writing when I read Lukisan Hujan (2004), about 10 years ago. It's a really sweet romance story between a girl and an older guy - who she sees as a brother. It's one of my favorite books when I was still in junior high, I think. And at that time, I also fell in love with the Hanafiah family stories. So I continued reading Imaji Terindah (2005), and Pesan Dari Bintang (2006). I also love her book Kencana (2005), which is not in the Hanafiah series but it's still a teenlit book which is published in 2005. Then I read her more recent works, such as Circa (2008) and Skenario Dunia Hijau dan cerita-cerita lain (2009); but unfortunately I didn't love them as much as her earlier works. At that moment, I kind of stopped buying her books - because I always refrain myself from reading books that I won't like. But anyway, I still respect Sitta Karina so much - because I remember how I cannot stop reading her books when I was a teenager *I was kind of obsessed with the Hanafiah family, actually* :'))

I read a bunch of Agnes Jessica's books when I was a teenager! Like, I literally bought all of her books that I can find. One that falls in the teenlit category is Tunangan? Hmm... (2005), it was one of my favorite teenlits and YES it has that cheesy plot-line! It's about a girl and a guy whose parents are good friends, and they decide to pair up the two with an engagement. But of course, they hate each other, and the girl likes another guy at school - but then the jealousy comes. (can't get any cheesier than that). But it's a super fun read! Although I don't know if I will still love this book when I read it again now. I actually have a lot more favorites by Agnes Jessica, but I don't think they are teenlits - so I'll just skip that.

I also love Windhy Puspitadewi's teenlits, basically because of her writing style. Some that I really adored are sHe (2007), which is about friendship (I think?). I also love Confeito (2005), also about friendship of 5 teenagers - all with different personalities. Although I can hardly remember the exact plot-lines for these books, they are indeed books that I hold dear. *I also listed her more recent work later in this post.

I really enjoyed Mia Arsjad's writing style, and one of my favorites is Lululergic (2006); it's a cute and fluffy read that talks more about family relationship, and a bit of romance. I also love Donna Rosamayna teenlit books, The Princess in Me (2005) - which is about a girl who has life issues because of her body, and it also talks about how she reached her dreams. I think it's a really great teenlit, because it's very encouraging and I think this book talks about issues that are important for teenagers to know. Another book that I love by the same author is U! (2005) - which is a really cute romance book, full of love-and-hate relationship which is cheesy but very fun to read at the same time. I wish Donna Rosamayna published more books :(

Pacarku Juniorku (2007) was quite an impulsive buy for me - but I actually really enjoyed this book (mainly because of the male character)! The plot-line is pretty obvious - because of the title; it's about a girl who fell in love with a younger guy. I had so much fun reading this book, had a few good laughs, and fell in love with the male character as well. Even though Valleria Verawati wasn't my favorite author, I loved this book 6 years ago :))

The Princess & The Pauper (Sang Putri & Si Miskin) (2004), is one of the earliest teenlit I read. It's a translated book, and the title says it all - you can probably predict what it's about. Yes, it's about two identical-looking girls with different lives - and they decide to switch lives. It's a pretty classic story, but I really enjoyed and devoured this book.

I love Silvia Arnie's teenlit books, including My Sky (2008) and A Life (2007). My Sky was a teen-romance book, with (again) a cute love-and-hate relationship. The story was quite predictable but I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style. While A Life was a story about two girls who became best friends after dating the same guy. It's a really heart-warming story. Unfortunately, Silvia Arnie's more recent works didn't manage to become my favorites.

Another author that I love is Charon, who wrote 3600 Detik (2008) and 7 Hari Menembus Waktu (2010). Some of you may heard of 3600 Detik because it was recently adapted into a movie - so I won't talk much about that. While 7 Hari Menembus Waktu is a pretty unique story about a girl who time-travel to 20 years earlier. It's a pretty fun and extraordinary read - furthermore, I also really like Charon's writing.

I guess not a lot of people are unfamiliar with the name Orizuka, at least I'm pretty sure you've heard of her name if you like to read. And she is indeed one of my favorite authors of all time. She wrote tons of teenlits, but I will just mention some that are published about 4 years ago (since this is a throwback post). The first one is Fate (2010), which includes Korean male characters! It talks about friendship, romance, and family - a complete teenlit package. I also love Our Story (2010), a story that sets in high school full of bad students - until a girl comes in and changed a lot of things. It's a bittersweet story, but absolutely beautiful. I love the male characters too! You can also read my review here.

The next one is a more recent work by Windhy Puspitadewi who I mentioned earlier, which is Morning Light (2010). It is, yet again, another friendship-romance story; and full of teenage stuffs - such as deciding the future, family-bonds, etc. As I've said, I really love her writing style; and I'm so looking forward to her new books!

The last one on this list is Eiffel... I'm in Love (2003)! This book was extremely popular around 10 years ago when it was published. It kept being republished into new editions because of the huge demand - especially after it was adapted into a movie (which I also love, btw). Anyway, I still remember how much I loveee this book. It's another matchmaking story, between a high school girl and this super cool guy. Again, love-and-hate relationship. But back then, this kind of story was kind of rare; so I had tons of fun reading it. These days, this kind of plot would probably be too mainstream.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are 19 books that I chose to list in this Throwback post; I probably have more, but so far those are all that I can remember. After reading this post, you might judge me for liking cheesy plot-lines and super mainstream stories - but I can't deny how I really enjoyed them. I had so much fun reading teenlit books when I was a teenager - and even though I rarely bought teenlit books anymore, I still treasure them in my heart. Because these books made me kept reading through those years, and probably even increase my love for reading :)) Feel free to comment down below if you've read some of these books! Or do you have other teenlits that are your favorite?

And if you have any suggestion for this throwback post (what to list and reminisce), write on the comments below please ;D Sorry for this extremely long post ;p Bye!
