February: Book Haul, Thesis, and E-Book.

.

Last month, I didn't get to post any book haul, so I'll use this opportunity to share some of my January, as well as February book-haul so far (because this is only the beginning of February, who knows what I'm going to buy later :p). I'm also going to talk a little bit about my on-going thesis - sorry for always talking about this; I don't know why I feel the need to explain myself related with the lack of post on this blog. Lastly, I'm also going to talk about e-book at the end of this post! First of all, let's meet my new books to welcome this new month ^3^

I think it's no secret that I'm a fan of Tere-Liye's books, and I've bought almost all of his books. Amelia is the first book of the Anak-Anak Mamak series, and I haven't started reading this series yet. Since I already got the first book, I think I'll schedule to read this series soon :) While Bumi, is his most recent work - and I am so looking forward to reading it! Most of the reviews on Goodreads showed a positive response to this book, so I'm really excited :D

This one is actually quite an impulsive buy; because I've heard of Maze Runner series for quite some time - since it will be adapted into a movie (coming soon in 2014). When I saw these books in Periplus, I grabbed both (even though I already put this series on my bookdepository wishlist) and bought them. I'm planning to read this series before the movie premieres; even though I'm not sure if I'll be able to make time for it.

Two of my most awaited books! And I got them free from the publisher: Penerbit Haru. When I found out Penerbit Haru will publish a translated version of You Are the Apple of My Eye, I'm so thrilled! I'm very happy this publisher finally starts to translate Chinese/Mandarin books aside from Korean and Japanese. I've watched the movie few years ago, but thankfully my short-term memory didn't remember much about it. So I'll watch it again after I'm finished with the book. The Last 2% is a Korean novel - which I always enjoyed reading, so hopefully the same thing will happen to this one. I'm already halfway through the book :))

Nick Vujicic is one of the people I admired the most in my life, because I've seen him in real life and his energy is so amazing - I almost cannot believe he lived his whole life without arms and legs. I already had the translated one, but decided to buy this newly published version with personal action plan. The Cuckoo's Calling has been on my wishlist for quite a while; and I was waiting for the smaller-book version to be published, but I guess I can't hold it much longer. Though I don't know when I will start reading it. So many books, so little time indeed.

I heard about The Power of Habit from my brother, and so I'm interested to buy and read it. I'm a person with some bad habits I really want to get rid off. I was hoping this book can help motivate me to create a change in my life - creating new habits for a better life. The Everything Store is also one of my impulsive buys. I got it at Periplus store in the airport (my impulsive buys always happen in Periplus, btw) when I saw this book on the window display. Amazon is known as one of the biggest online shop in the world; so I think it will be a great knowledge for me to read it :)

*I also got Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, but forgot to take an individual shot of it.

So, let me talk a bit about my on-going thesis. I started going back to campus again in late January, and finally got my schedule to meet and discuss with my lecturer every Monday, Thursday, and Friday. But it doesn't mean the rest of the week is all fun and games, because every meeting my lecturer gives us all assignments to finish and submit by the next week. I'm still trying to adapt to this new routine - especially with all the work I have to do and finish; and that makes my reading time becoming less and less. Sadly, I had to reduce my Goodreads 2014 Reading Challenge goal to 80 books this year - because I certainly think I won't be able to reach 100. Though I may not read as many books as the previous years, I promise myself to still write reviews for books I finished reading.

*For those of you who might already know, I opened order for Bookish T-Shirt and Totebag as part of my thesis progress. The order will be closed on 8 February 2014; so for those of you who want to have these t-shirts and totebag, click here: http://www.thebookielooker.com/p/clearance-sale.html, for more details ^3^

My last topic for today will be E-Books!

I'm not really an e-book person, because I don't have an e-reader and I hate to read on the computer or on my smartphone (which has a really small screen). I never embrace the idea of reading through an e-reader because my eyes are very sensitive and gets tired very easily. But one day I was thinking about the idea of having an e-reader; because it certainly will be a huge help for me when I'm going away from home (a holiday, for example). I always bring 2-3 books with me for a long trip, and it's not very convenient because books can be heavy. So it goes through my mind, how wonderful it would be to have an e-reader, and I wouldn't have to worry about running out of books to read? Then I began my research on e-readers, and my choice falls on three: Kindle Paperwhite, iPad Mini, or Samsung Galaxy Mega.

Long story short, I have set my choice to Paperwhite (which is only an e-reader, not a tablet or phone like iPad/Samsung) because of the built-in light instead of LED (which can be tough on the eyes if used for reading to long), but it is also black and white - which means no pretty covers to look at. I also fell in love with the dictionary and wikipedia features on it. Right now, I'm still in a dilemma whether to buy the Paperwhite, or wait for the new iPad Mini to be released. Making choices is tough ;___; I'll definitely post my e-reader when I finally decide what to get! Bye!
