Here's the last and most important category of
Book Kaleidoscope 2013 hosted by Fanda @
Fanda Classiclit! It is the Top Five Most Favorite Books in 2013. Just like last year, I've given a lot of 5 stars rating to the books I read - which means I read quite a lot of good books. Although it might be a tough choice, I will have to list my top 5 favorites. And continuing my last year habit, I will choose 5 favorites for Indonesian books and also 5 favorites for English books.
So here's the ultimate list of my 2013 favorite books (in no particular order) ! Read my last year's favorites here.
The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings, #3) by J.R.R. Tolkien
Pintu Harmonika by Clara Ng & Icha Rahmanti
So I finally finished reading the last book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and it was definitely a satisfying end - although I didn't finish reading all the appendix part. I always hope that someday there would be another great writer who could create a story as amazing as The Lord of the Rings. What I admire the most about this trilogy is the world J.R.R. Tolkien created; it made me believe that Middle Earth does exist - with all the handsome/beautiful elves in it. So I'm happy to put this book on the favorite list. Pintu Harmonika is one of the books that left deepest impression in me. The story is simple and heartwarming; and what I love the most is the unexpected ending. Still haven't watched the movie adaptation yet, hopefully soon!
The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom
4 Ways to Get a Wife by Hyun Go Wun
Every time Mitch Albom released a book, I never think a second time to buy it; and so this book has also become one of my favorites this year. As the title says, the story talks about time; and the amazing quotes definitely taught me a lot of things - especially to treasure time. 4 Ways to Get a Wife successfully become my favorite Korean-translated book this year! It's actually quite difficult for me to really love a translated book, but I did with this one :)) It was like watching a rom-com Korean drama. Definitely love it!
Every Day by David Levithan
Benabook by Benazio Rizki
I've mentioned David Levithan's Every Day several times in the previous category, so I guess it wouldn't be strange for me to put this book on my favorite list! It was a very easy read, because the story is so well-written - which is why David Levithan instantly become my new favorite author! Even though the plot is pretty simple, but many things happened in the book; not only it entertained me, but also taught me a lot of important lessons. As for Benabook, it is the most creative book I read this year - or maybe ever! The book is so beautifully layouted, full of wonderful illustrations, and the content is fun to read. Looking forward to reading more books like this one :)
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Melbourne: Rewind by Winna Efendi
The hype over Divergent series is not overrated, because I instantly fell in love with the world created by Veronica Roth. Another thing I love from the Divergent series is of course Veronica Roth's writing, which flows really nicely and made me want to read more and more. I'm really looking forward to her next work :)) Melbourne: Rewind is a romance fiction story that sets in Melbourne; and I've been a fan of Winna Efendi for a long time, so it's not difficult to love her works. But this book is my favorite out of all Winna Efendi's books. The plot is nicely arranged and the characters' chemistry is lovable! I totally want a relationship like the main characters had in this book ;))
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
The Chronicles of Audy: 4R by Orizuka
I'm saving the best for last; this is probably my most favorite reads of 2013. The Fault in Our Stars certainly left a deep impression in me; the plot, the character, the quotes - everything! This book made me promise myself to read more of John Green's works, because once is probably not enough. His writing is witty and flawless, indeed. I also can't wait to see the movie adaptation for this book, hopefully it won't be disappointing. The Chronicles of Audy: 4R is written by one of my favorite Indonesian authors: Orizuka. She always managed to create heartwarming stories that always tugs at my heartstrings - including this one. Rather than about romance, it talks more about family. Hopefully the romance will start to bloom in the next book. Certainly can't wait for the release!
So that's the end of Book Kaleidoscope 2013;
I'll be sure to make another one for 2014 !
